Writer’s block

Well, I wouldn’t actually call it that, but I’m having trouble writing today, so let’s just go for it. This happens to me all the time, but there’s a couple of things that I like to do which help me through it at times. Most of these things probably qualify as procrastinating just as well, so don’t spend hours on it maybe. Or do, that’s fine.
Write something else
Honestly, anything else will do. I generally switch between this blog and my diary. If I can’t find anything good to write I just write what I’ve been up to in my life for my diary and when I get bored of that I switch to something more general for my blog. If I get really desperate I just write random sentences about not knowing what to write, for example.
Get inspiration elsewhere
Unfortunately, I do not follow a lot of blogs. This means that in general I get my inspiration from watching videos on YouTube which is simultaneously very tricky business. I think that most often this just results in me watching random videos for hours straight but it also gets me motivated a lot to go and do something myself again.
Communicate
For the longest time I didn’t even tell anyone I was writing. I was pretty embarrassed about it since this whole thing isn’t really destined to go anywhere and I figured people would just find me weird for doing it regardless. However, I’ve found that most people around me are actually quite supportive about it, or at least not judgmental, and it makes it so much easier for me when I can just complain about being stumped or unmotivated. Sometimes they might have a good idea or just talking to them will get you motivated again.
Another thing about communicating is that in most cases inspiration comes from your life and sitting behind a laptop isn’t going to trigger you as much as having a real conversation which might flow into a subject that you have something to say about.
Accept your limits
If nothing is coming then that’s fine. In the beginning I gave myself zero limitations aside from writing once a week. Whether that was five sentences or five paragraphs, I didn’t care. I didn’t proofread to get rid of mistakes and I didn’t think twice about the subject. Right now, I’m a bit more strict on myself but I’ve learned that setting too many limitations makes writing impossible. If you force yourself to only produce high quality content, which is generally a good idea, then don’t beat yourself up if you miss a week because of a lack of inspiration or life getting in the way. Similarly, if you do want to just reach your quota of a post a week or maybe a day then give yourself a break if sometimes that content doesn’t come out as perfect or is maybe a bit shorter than you would like. It’s fine.
Final thoughts
This is the second post I’ve written recently about tips and it’s legit scaring me. I’m not really qualified to give advice to be fair, but these small things have helped me through moments when I kind of lost my motivation because of a busy schedule or a lack of inspiration. So, whether I’m qualified or not, here’s my advice and do with it whatever you like.
