Politics taking over

Over the last couple of weeks I have been writing numerous frivolous little articles about nothing more than what is playing around in my head at that moment. I have never intended this blog to contain actual meaningful articles, so that did not really bother me at all.

However, there is something I want to talk about right now and it’s the so-called social media bubble. It’s this phenomenon that because of the algorithm of the different social media pages we tend to only come across content that we relate to or like to see. This is, of course, the beauty of communities like Twitter and Facebook. The downside is, though, that it also means that our own convictions keep getting confirmed without any other sides of the argument coming our way.

Because of this my entire Twitter feed was filled with messages pleading against the BREXIT and my Facebook right now is filled with Trump jokes.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been meeting lots of different people from lots of different places with lots of different opinions.

The other day I was speaking with someone who voted leave and someone who is going to be voting Trump soon and the only thing I could of think of is this: What in the world do I know?

I haven’t lived in the United Kingdom during those years and I have never even been to the United States, so who am I to judge what is going on there? I have read countless articles favouring Hillary, but have I ever looked into the real content of either candidate's campaign?

Have I read up on the European Union and all its legislation and consequences? Not really. I have to admit that I have shamefully neglected researching both cases before picking a side. Topping that with the fact that social media is constantly validating my prejudices and it makes me wonder who really is the idiot?

For the record; I am not switching over to team Trump or the pro leave camp just yet. Instead I will from now on try to stay open-minded as long as I have absolutely no clue what is actually going on anyway.
