When my imagination runs wild

Sometimes I like my imagination. Whenever I’m in a boring class or I have to wait for someone I can escape to someplace more interesting. Still, sometimes it can definitely be a bit of a nuisance. I’m pretty sure that almost everyone has at time let their imagination run wild and started imagining stuff a lot worse than reality. For example when you’re in high school and you walk past a group of giggling peers and by the time you’re home you are absolutely convinced that you heard them say you’re name.
That’s not exactly what I’m talking about though. I’m talking about smaller things that, when you add them up, can start to be a real issue. Imagining memories. Let me explain, because I’m sure I’m not the only one who does this.
I’m a messy, chaotic and forgetful person. I lose things on a daily basis and I’m fairly used to that. The issue is that I’m also imaginative. This means that whenever I lose something I try to remember where I’ve last seen it and that’s where my memory starts failing and my imagination kicks in instead showing me random places where I’m sure the lost item will be. Except that it’s never actually there.
Another nice example is when you have something important to do like locking a door or putting a last vital item in your purse before leaving. Again, as I frantically try to remember how I left the house and whether I did the important thing my memory goes blank and is without my knowledge replaced by my imagination showing me all sorts of scenarios that are hardly ever true and hardly ever comforting.
Please tell me I’m not the only one getting fooled by my brains or if I am please tell me how to better train my memory and imagination to cooperate effectively. Thanks.
